6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
'In addition to preparing for classes Alex participated in a day of professional learning that firstly focussed on developing and reviewing a common assessment task used in the two year 10 classes using the hattie size effect to analyse students pre and post learning. Alex reviewed this data and student feedback data I had collected earlier from my 2 year 10 history classes and provided an accurate summary. Alex took part in moderation of student samples (benchmarked against ACARA history exemplars) of a Rights and Freedoms year 10 history task' (VHHS Report).
During both my placements I was able to participate in a PD day that had two very different focusses. At VHHS we looked at benchmarking and student feedback forms that was able to assist me greatly in improving my practice. At Gleeson we had a day that focussed on spirituality and community service with the CEO of St Vincent De Pauls as a guest speaker.
