Graduate: Demonstrate the capacity to interpret student assessment data to evaluate student learning and modify teaching practice.
'He was willing to consult about previous data and we discussed at length each week how we may improve an individuals performance' (Gleeson Report).
I was able to consult with my mentor at Gleeson on at least a weekly basis as we went through the class list and discussed student data for each student and how we can use it to help them improve. We did this in conjunction with the classes maths and science teacher in order to get a full picture of how the student was travelling week to week with the rigours of school. With my mentor we looked at NAPLAN data as well to see how the students might have improved since then and what areas the class as a whole might require more lesson time devoted to.
During a PD day at VHHS I spent an entire day working with my mentor analysing student feedback data designed to help my mentor analyse her own teaching practices and programs. This was a good experience and I was able to make useful connections between the questions that no-one else had and come to conclusions as a result, which my mentor really appreciated.
